## What is the South African Powerball?

The South African Powerball is an addition to the regular lottery whereby a player selects a Powerball number in addition to the five standard lottery numbers. If a player picks matches for all five regular lottery numbers numbers as well as the Powerball number, they will win a larger sum. This is called the Powerball Jackpot.

### How does the game work?

There are two draw pools for each game. One contains 45 balls numbered from 1-45 and the other containing 20 balls, numbered 1-20. The first pool is where the regular lottery numbers are drawn from and the second pool is where the Powerball number is drawn from. After the main draw is complete, the Powerball draw takes place. The first number drawn from the Powerball pool is the Powerball number.

Category 1- Jackpot: To win the Powerball Jackpot, a player must match all 5 main draw numbers AND the Powerball number. The distribution of winnings in this category is 42.07% of the total Powerball winnings.

Category 2- Match Five: A player must match all of the five main draw numbers. The distribution of winnings in this category is 13.33% of the total Powerball winnings.

Category 3- Match Four + One: A player must match four main draw numbers and the Powerball number. The distribution of winnings in this category is 9.36% of the total Powerball winnings.

Category 4- Match Four: A player must match four out of the five main draw numbers. The distribution of winnings in this category is 3.56% of the total Powerball winnings.

Category 5- Match Three + One: A player must match three of the five main draw numbers as well as the Powerball number. The distribution of winnings in this category is 7.30% of the total Powerball winnings.

Category 6- Match Three: A player must correctly match three of the five main draw numbers. The distribution of winnings in this category is 6.94% of the total Powerball winnings.

Category 7- Match Two + One: A player must match two out of the five main draw numbers as well as the powerball The distribution of winnings in this category is 4.62% of the total Powerball winnings.

Category 8- Match One + One: This is the final and lowest winning category. A player must correctly match one out of the five main draw numbers as well as the Powerball number. The distribution of winnings in this category is 12.82% of the total Powerball winnings.
